Westminster Bridge was closed to traffic and pedestrians on Saturday morning (September 24) while filming took place, believed to be for a major Hollywood blockbuster.

The bridge near the Houses of Parliament was shut between 7am and 9pm and cars, taxis and police vehicles were spotted driving backwards over the Thames during shooting.

Two helicopters, including a camera helicopter, were spotted hovering above the major tourist hotspot.

Reports have surfaced on social media that the filming was for the upcoming Transformers 5, which is set to be released in 2017.

The big-budget franchise stars Mark Wahlberg and film-makers linked to the project have already been spotted filming in west London earlier this month.

A huge lighting rig was spotted looming over Syon Park in Hounslow , but staff would only say it was for a 'private event.'

Westminster Bridge eventually opened to the public at around 9.10am.
