Cancer Survivors and the Mayor of Harrow Councillor Krishna Suresh celebrated cancer survivorship in Pinner on Saturday (April 9) as the area was given a fresh new lick of paint.

With balloons and banners down Pinner High Street and Bridge Street the Mayor, along with the cancer survivors, inspected the numerous purple window displays in the area.

As part of the day the Mayor chose Andrew Pearce Estate Agents as the winning window display for “Paint Pinner Purple”.

Mark Clements, Chairman of Relay For Life Harrow , says “This is the first time we have ran Paint Pinner Purple and it was a great success.

“A number of the shops in Pinner kindly decorated their shops in Purple and we were really pleased that our cancer survivors turned out as well. I am already looking forward on building on this for next year to make Paint Pinner Purple even more successful.

“Purple is the colour of hope and cancer survivorship; which is what we’re working towards. Survivors mean research is working and saving lives. Let’s paint the world purple!”

Dauma Wilson, Survivorship chair, says "This is a great way to get survivors together and to do something special for them.

“I was overwhelmed by the support of the many people who spoke to us while we were in Pinner and the number of people who, themselves, have been touched by cancer.

“I think if more people knew how many other people have survived cancer they would feel far less alone during the long and grueling treatment.”

Local figures and community members were recently locked up in jail to raise money for a local charity.

This September, cancer survivors and local will raise money for Cancer Research UK as the annual Relay For Life Harrow event.

The Relay For Life Harrow team are holding an information evening on Wednesday (April 20) at 6:30pm at Bentley Wood High School for anyone who is interested to find out more about the Relay For Life event.
