A night shelter in Hillingdon will soon be opening for the winter and has asked for the public's help to care for homeless people in the borough.

The shelter, based in Hayes, will be opening on Monday January 16 and is run by charity St Mungo's and supported by Hillingdon Council .

St Mungo's is looking for donations from the public but also need volunteers to help provide accommodation, breakfast and evening meals for vulnerable men sleeping rough.

Hillingdon Council's cabinet member for social services, housing, health and wellbeing, Cllr Philip Corthorne, said: “Hillingdon Council is delighted to team up with St Mungo's in order to help people in need during the harsh winter months.”

Volunteers are needed to help with cooking, supporting the homeless people, running the shelter and also just providing a friendly face.

This year is the twelfth year the shelter has opened and donations of food, clothes, and toiletries will be gratefully received by St Mungo's.

Regional head at the charity, Cliff Dymond, said: “We are very pleased that Hillingdon has agreed to support this initiative.

“We will be working closely with local community partners and thank those who have already generously come forward to offer their time and energy.”
