Police have urged the victim of an alleged late-night sexual assault on the Tube to come forward.

A man was seen boarding a Piccadilly line train between 11.30pm and midnight on January 31, between Northfields and Hammersmith, with his arms around a woman as if they were a couple.

They sat down and the man appeared to place his hand under her clothing and groped her, prompting other Tube users to challenge the man asking what his relationship with the woman was. He put his hand over her mouth so she could not answer but passengers heard her say 'help me'.

Tube users then detained the man, who was arrested by police at Hammersmith station, but the woman left the station without leaving her details.

PC Paul Franklin, from British Transport Police, said: “I am really keen to trace the woman who was allegedly assaulted.

"If you were travelling on this train and witnessed this incident, please get in touch with BTP. Any information could prove vital to this investigation.”

A 24-year-old Wembley man was arrested on suspicion of assault and sexual assault and has been bailed until February 25.
