Five people have been hospitalised after a car collided with a number of pedestrians in Brixton on Saturday morning (December 2).

At around 3am officers from Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a car in collision with pedestrians in Stockwell Road, near the junction of Sidney Road.

Five male pedestrians – aged between 23 and 42-years-old – were taken to hospital by paramedics after London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene.

None of those who suffered injuries as a result of the collision are in critical condition.

The car, a VW Golf, was abandoned at the scene after the pedestrians were injured and a number of occupants made off on foot, Metropolitan Police said.

Detectives from Lambeth CID are investigating and believe the incident took place shortly after an altercation between the occupants of the car and a number of people in Stockwell Road.

The incident took place in Stockwell Road at around 3am

A spokesman for the force added: “This is not a terrorist incident, and is not being treated as a hate crime.

“At this very early stage, there has been no arrest and enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.”

Stockwell Road remained closed at 2pm on Saturday (December 2) while detectives investigate and an appeal has been made for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call officers from Lambeth CID on 101 or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
