A British Airways Boeing 777-200 passenger jet was forced to call for a priority landing at Heathrow Airport on Friday morning (September 11).

Flight 292 encountered technical problems but landed without difficulty and no passengers were hurt.

The drama came just two days after a different BA flight burst into flames seconds before take-off.

The airport was forced to temporarily suspend operations on one runway so the aircraft could be "moved to stand".

A Heathrow spokesman said: "It was a full emergency but it's all clear.

"All the runways are open. The aircraft has been pulled back to its stand.

"It's just a technical issue."

He added: "We are sorry for any delays to flights this morning."

The jet which encountered problems is reportedly the same model as that one which caught fire at McCarran International Airport in Nevada.

A BA spokeswoman said: "Our highly trained engineers are inspecting the aircraft to determine what the issue was."

In a statement, the airline said: "The flight crew requested a priority landing as a precaution, and the aircraft landed safely.

"The safety of our customers and crew is always our main concern and our highly trained pilots will never compromise this.

"We are sorry for the delay to our customers' journeys."

The flight took off from Washington Dulles International Airport just after 11pm EDT and arrived at Heathrow at 10.38am UK time. It is not thought to have put out a distress call during the flight.
