A man from Brentford has been fined for stealing comedian Eddie Izzard's pink beret during an anti-Brexit demonstration.

David Czerwonko,of Clitherow Road, Brentford, pleaded guilty to a theft charge at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday (September 19).

The 26-year-old was handed a £185 fine, ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £30 – totalling £300.

The incident happened earlier this month during a rally in London against Britain's vote to leave the European Union.

Mr Izzard was seen leading the march along Whitehall followed by thousands of other remain campaign supporters, when the headgear was snatched.

He is heard in the video shouting: "Give that back!"

Wearing high heels, he chased the man who was detained by police officers and managed to recover his hat.
