The free employment advice bus rolled into Brentford for the first time giving new-found hope to jobless people in the area.

The Careers Coach, which already stops in Feltham and Hounslow, was launched with MP for Brentford and Isleworth Ruth Cadbury who opened the doors to offer jobseekers a lifeline on Thursday (January 27).

More than 30 people boarded the council’s mobile office at A2Dominion’s Great West Quarter estate, where they were given job search support, training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Great West Quarter resident Amira Dzonlic, who attended the event, said: “The Careers Coach was helpful and I was surprised at how good it was.

“I received some great advice from A2Dominion’s employment pathways team, and they are helping me with training to help further my career.”

Following the service’s success in other parts of the borough, Hounslow council joined forces with housing association A2Dominion to extend its route to the estate on Ealing Road.

The careers on wheels service is equipped with nine computer stations, and among the first to get inside were a young mother keen to return to work and a resident looking to write a CV after being unemployed for 20 years.

The Careers Coach will stop at the site on the last Thursday of every month to support people’s job prospects and career developments.

Ms Cadbury said: “There are lots of young people living at Great West Quarter and this service offers a fantastic opportunity for them to improve their skills and develop their careers.”

The Careers Coach now stops for three drop-in services in the borough; on the last Thursday of every month in Brentford; and weekly on Mondays to Bell Square in Hounslow and on Wednesdays to The Centre car park in Feltham, each from midday to 4.30pm.

The next Brentford stop is on Thursday (February 25).
