Sweethearts in Brentford are showing their smitten side after love locks have started to appear on the footbridge at Brentford Lock.

The craze which has spread worldwide in the past decade, symbolises a couple’s ever-lasting by attaching a padlock to the railings on a bridge and throwing the key into the river.

More than a dozen have appeared so far on the footbridge in Brentford.

Shelly Robinson, 33, who works in Brentford spotted the locks on her way home on Friday (February 26).

She said: "I actually think it’s quite endearing and a good idea. A nice addition to Brentford.

"Hopefully should it fill up it won’t cause any structural damage to the bridge and the Canal Trust welcome it.

"It’s a way for locals to express their love for someone or remembering a loved one by."

The growing trend has seen people declare their love for a partner at bridges and fences across the capital including at Tower Bridge and Millennium Bridge.
