A landlord in Brent has been slapped with a £2,000 fine for failing to repair a rental property in Neasden after tenants complained of a urine smell.

Mr Gareth Kirwan was convicted at Willesden Magistrates' Court on March 24 for failing to carry out the repairs.

Repeated requests by Brent Council went unnoticed and his property in Aylesbury Street didn't receive the necessary repairs.

The tenants contacted Brent's Private Housing Services Team in June 2014 after complaining about the state of the property since moving in.

After inspection, council officers discovered a strong smell of urine, damp and also a leaking toilet.

After the promises of repairs weren't kept, Brent Council served a formal Improvement Notice to Mr Kirwan in October 2014 to improve the condition of the property yet this was also ignored.

Mr Kirwan now has to pay a £2,000 fine along with costs of £1,147 and a surcharge of £120.
