Boris Johnson made £600,000 in just one year - and that's not even including his MP salary, tax returns reveal.

The Conservative MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip , who gets £75,000 for his duties as a member of parliament, earned more from writing newspaper columns and books.

Since publishing the documents, the MP has been scrutinised about how many responsibilities he should be juggling alongside his service to constituents and Londoners.

Figures show he earned £491,000 in 2014/15 from his weekly Daily Telegraph column and book royalties combined - plus £144,000 for his job as Mayor of London.

Pay for the column was upped to £266,667 after the Mayor described the previous quarter of a million sum as "chicken feed".

Not included on the four-year tax summary is his salary for being an MP, a job he secured in May 2015.

Although stepping down as Mayor in May 2016, the high profile politician has maintained four jobs: Member of Parliament, writer, columnist and Mayor.

During the four years, he earned £575,644 as mayor, £987,097 for his Daily Telegraph column and £469,385 for book royalties, which would mean paying £1million in income tax.

Over four years Mr Johnson made just £2,438 in bank interest - and no other investment income was declared.

The London mayor is the latest high-profile politician to volunteer his tax details in the wake of the Panama Papers.
