Boris Johnson joined Conservative parliamentary candidate Mary Macleod on her campaign trail in Brentford last week.

The Mayor of London, along with the MP for Brentford and Isleworth, stopped in Brentford High Street first to see how some of the money from his Outer London Fund has been spent creating the new marketplace.

During the visit he had the chance to meet key community leaders including representatives from Brentford High Street Action Group, Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust (FCCST) and Brentford Chamber of Commerce, along with several businesses and residents.

He was also keen to pop into The Weir Pub and Dining Room where the famous painter JMW Turner lived for a year in 1785 and made a stop off at the Brentford FCCST in support of the multi-sport Brentford Challenge in May.

The Mayor was also interviewed by Dunja Relic, London region Youth Parliament representative, who asked him why he had taken time out of his busy diary to support Ms Macleod.

Mr Johnson said: “This is the closest election for 50 years. We need to make it certain that Mary gets re-elected, I hope she does.

"She has been a wonderful MP and is the right person to manage the growth in this area in the future.”

They ended their day on the streets of Brentford with a pint of Chiswick-brewed London Pride at the newly opened Fuller's pub One over the Ait.

Ms Macleod said: “It was great to have Boris join me and show him that Brentford is brilliant.

"He has done an excellent job so far as Mayor of London and is admired by people wherever he goes – regardless of which party they vote for.

"I have enjoyed working with him on campaigns like getting the Piccadilly line to stop at Turnham Green and making sure that Heathrow gets 'better not bigger' and I hope to continue to do so if re-elected in May.”
