Firefighters discovered the body of a man when they were called to put out a blaze in Covent Garden.

Crews from Kensington , Soho and Islington stations made the grim discovery at a flat in Tavistock Street on Tuesday (September 28).

A fire broke out in the ground floor flat of a five-storey block just before 4.45pm. Fire crews donned breathing apparatus to search the four-roomed property where they discovered the man in the kitchen.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was under control by 5.26pm. Its cause is now under investigation.

On Friday (September 23) a motorbike turned into a ball of fire when it caught alight in Piccadilly Circus.

Crowds watched as the vehicle burned, which resulted in the closure of two roads in Regent Street.

Onlookers filmed the blaze on their mobile phones (below).
