Skiing season is well and truly under way and London is evidently no exception to the rule despite its distinct lack of snow and mountains.

Commuters were left baffled after spotting a man waiting at the traffic lights in what appears to be skiing gear.

Footage taken by a startled passer-by on March 1 shows the man patiently waiting in St John's Wood , before taking off with his sticks and sliding down the road.

Could sliding your way through rush hour be the new way forward for Londoners?

University student Rosanna who caught the commuter said: "In commuter chaos due to the Northern Line being broken, an alternative form of transport."

Upon closer inspection, the man donning a blue coat can be spotted wearing roller skiis, which have wheels on the bottom so they can glide on tarmac.

The Scandinavian originating method of transportation means people can use cycle lanes in order to travel.

Hillingdon boasts one of the biggest roller skiing clubs in London, with the London Region Nordic Ski Club running monthly courses for intermediate skiiers in Hayes .
