New figures which reveal the amount of people dependent on food hand-outs within Hammersmith and Fulham have been published.

The Trussel Trust’s mid-year statistics show that between April and September 2015, the charity’s foodbanks gave 1,927 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in the borough, with 624 of the supplies given to children.

Hammersmith Labour MP Andy Slaughter urged the government to do more to help the needy. He said: “These shocking figures show that hundreds of households and families in Hammersmith are relying on emergency food supplies from food banks to get them through the week.

“David Cameron should take immediate action to help alleviate the plight of the poor.”
