With shoppers out to grab bargains during the May Bank Holiday weekend, Getwestlondon looks into shopping at BHS.

Following the announcement the high street retail giant filed for administration on Monday (April 25), after failing to make a profit, its hundreds of stores remain open and continue trading while joint administrators attempt to work out a solution.

But what does that mean for people who continue to shop at the renowned department store which has several shops including its flagship store on Oxford Street and west London stores in Uxbridge, Harrow and West Ealing.

Here are some helpful answers to the questions on consumers minds.

Are BHS gift cards and vouchers still valid?

Gift cards and vouchers can only be redeemed in store and will only be accepted as payment for goods to a limit of 50% of those goods.

For example: To redeem a £20 BHS gift card or voucher, the customer will be required to purchase items to the value of £40 or greater - payment would then be £20 BHS gift card or voucher and £20 cash or credit or debit card.

However BHS gift cards and vouchers are no longer sold.

Is there a deadline for using gift vouchers?

There is no deadline for using gift vouchers, they continue to be accepted, but must account for 50% of the total sale where the remainder is settled in cash or by debit/credit card.

Can I use my gift card online?

Unfortunately while BHS is trading under administration gift cards can no longer be used online.

Can I get a refund or exchange for an item?

While under administration, purchases can be exchanged for goods to the same value or less with proof of receipt within 35 days.

However refunds cannot be given on goods bought before April 25, 2016. And goods purchased since then can only be refunded if they are faulty.

Can I return goods ordered online?

During administration online orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery via post or courier but not exchanged. However online orders cannot be returned or exchanged in store.

Are deliveries still being made for online purchases?

Parcel deliveries remain unaffected during administration. Please remember there are no refunds or exchanges for orders made online in store.
