Barnardo’s has launched its first designer boutique-style store in one of London’s most fashionable shopping districts, giving customers the opportunity to pick up high-end items at affordable prices while feeling good about where the money is going.
The store, in Marylebone’s George Street, reopened on Saturday (November 25) following a two-week transformation, becoming the only Barnardo’s shop in the UK to be fitted out as a showcase for designer clothes, accessories, and gold and silver jewellery.
Many of the designer goods on sale are donated by loyal customers who live and shop locally, with money made from them being used to support the charity’s work with the UK’s most vulnerable children, young people and families.
The store’s designer focus has been driven by manager Eduardo Martins, who completed a degree in fashion and textile design in his home country of Portugal before moving to London in 2010.
Soon after he started working at the Marylebone Barnardo’s branch.
He said: “I came in six years ago as a volunteer, then when I became a sales assistant I started helping to change the feel of the shop and creating new window displays.
“I became the manager two years ago and since then the team and I have been pushing forward with our vision.
“I’m so happy that Barnardo’s is backing us with this new format and we’re able to go even further.
“We have a really good understanding of designer labels and what shoppers are looking for.
“People know that Barnardo’s is a really good cause and when they donate goods to us, they’re confident that we’ll get the best value from reselling each item.”
The store is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
