The Mayor of London has expressed the capital city's solidarity with Barcelona following the attack in the Spanish city, in which 13 people are confirmed to have died.

Posting on Twitter on Thursday (August 17), Sadiq Khan said London stands with the city of Barcelona following the incident which police say is being treated as a terror attack.

He said: "My thoughts are with the victims of this barbaric terrorist attack in the great city of Barcelona and with their brave emergency services.

In a second Tweet, he continued: "London stands with Barcelona against the evil of terrorism."

Many people have also been injured as a result of the attack in which a van drove into crowds in the city centre.

It follows recent terror attacks in London on Westminster Bridge, London Bridge and Finsbury Park.
