An award-winning Harrow director is getting the final touches ready for his new science fiction film.

Patrick Ryder will be entering his first foray into the genre, with Human , the story of a woman who stumbles across a robot and a long-lasting relationship flourishes.

Drawing inspiration from science fiction films such as ET and the Ex Machina , Human follows the story of Anna and her new-found robot friend.

Back in April 2015, getwestlondon spoke to Patrick Ryder about the film , which is now nearing completion and has entered post-production.

We caught up with Mr Ryder again a year on and asked what it's been like filming the sci-fi film and what has been going on in the last 12 months.

“I've had a great year with lots going on, trying to make the film”, Patrick said.

“We launched a Kickstarter last year and raised £1,400, which went quite a bit over what we expected.”

With the money raised from the crowdfunding campaign, Patrick was able to hire someone who builds robots and buy a Hollywood prop suit once used by actress Milla Jovovich.

The Harrow model maker, Alex Philips, helped design the look and feel of the robot, Allium.

“It took about three months to design the robot, and Alex put a lot of effort into it, we are really pleased.

“The face lights up when it speaks, it's great!”

In terms of the year ahead, Patrick said he is currently working on a full length feature film, with Human set for release later this year.

“Human is one of the best shot films I've done and I have high hopes for it as I've had great success with films in the past.

“I would like to thank Alex Phillips, Mitch Rouse, Leila Kotori, Nadia Lamin, Christie-Luke Jones, Benjamin Symons and Peter Burford and especially my wife Christine who co-wrote the film.”
