A man has been arrested following complaints about drunken, abusive rants at churches across Chiswick .

Police said they had received reports about a number of services at various churches allegedly being interrupted by similar outbursts over the last few months.

Sergeant Dave Turtle said the most recent incident happened a fortnight ago at Our Lady of Grace & St Edward Church, in Chiswick High Road, near Turnham Green .

On that occasion, he told getwestlondon , a man came in with a can of beer and began shouting obscenities at the priest in front of around 200 shocked worshippers.

Sgt Turtle said a man in his 30s had been arrested on Friday (August 19) on suspicion of a section five public order offence, and was being held that afternoon at Kingston police station.

"We won't tolerate any form of abuse at any premises, particularly at religious premises given the ongoing issues after the attack at a church in France," he said.
