An Army Reservist based at the Army Reserve Centre at Hayes Bridge, near Southall, has been honoured by the local Sikh Community.

Staff Sergeant John Rock, from 151 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps, was honoured with a ‘Siropa’ presented to him by Sant Baba Amar Singh Ji in the presence of a congregation of 10,000 at the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy PARKASH 2015 event.

The honour was awarded for his contribution to serving the Sikh communities.

The Sipora is a garment of dress bestowed on someone as a mark of honour and acknowledgement of devotion.

Staff Sergeant John Rock's devotion to serving the communities was mentioned in both Panjabi and English and broadcasted to the Sikh community in the UK.

Staff Sergeant John Rock is part of the Regiments Outreach Team and has worked hard engaging with the local community building strong links with organisations such as the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy.

On receiving the award, he said: "I am extremely proud to be awarded this great honour from the Sikh community.

"I have been privileged to have the opportunity through our outreach programmes to engage with local communities, gaining understanding and mutual respect by communicating the values and standards of the British Army.

"I would like to thank the Sikh community that nominated me for this great honour."
