Two men have been arrested after armed officers swooped on car in Ashford near Feltham .

Officers stopped a car in Salcombe Road at 7.23pm on Saturday "in relation to an arrest enquiry", said the Metropolitan Police .

During a search of the vehicle, a firearm was found, Get Surrey reports.

The Met also confirmed a police firearm was discharged during the operation.

Nearby Ashford Crescent was also cordoned off while officers attended the incident in Salcombe Road.

The force has confirmed the men, both in their 20s, were taken to a police station in west London.

The first, aged 25, who was being sought by police, was detained and arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and making threats to kill.

The second, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

No-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for the Met said: "At around 7.23pm on Saturday [February 18], Met Police officers in an armed response vehicle stopped a car in Salcombe Road, Ashford, in relation to an arrest enquiry.

"The first man, aged 25 - who was the subject sought in the stop - was detained and arrested on suspicion of GBH and threats to kill.

"During a search of the vehicle, a non-MPS firearm was found.

"The second man, aged 26, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

"The man arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm sustained a very minor facial injury during the course of this stop and arrest. We await further details of how the man was injured.

"Upon arrest, both men were taken to a west London police station, where they remain, for questioning.

"A police firearm was discharged in this incident. As is routine, officers from the DPS have been informed. No police officer was injured."

Residents reported seeing and hearing a police helicopter circling the area.

It is understood an ambulance also attended.
