A warning has been issued to people across the UK over “fake text messages” which are pretending to be from Argos and offering a refund.

The text messages tell the recipient they are owed a refund from the retailer, and includes a link to a separate website.

But this link in the messages lead to phishing websites designed to steal personal information, as well as payment details.

In light of the scam, Action Fraud is warning the country.

“These fake text messages purport to be from Argos and claim that you’re owed a refund,” said Action Fraud.

Action Fraud is warning people about the scam

“The link in the messages lead to phishing websites designed to steal your personal information, as well as payment details.

“Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it’s a scam. Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text."
