An elderly man is in critical condition following a hit and run in Shepherd’s Bush.

An 88-year-old pedestrian was crossing the Uxbridge Road near the junction with Devonport Road, when a moped driver collided with the pensioner and the impact threw him across the road.

The bike rider fell off his cream coloured Piaggio moped but climbed back on and made off towards Loftus Road before the emergency services arrived, the Metropolitan Police said.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a central London hospital by the London Ambulance Service, following the incident at 4.50pm on Wednesday (March 30).

A moped has also been recovered within one mile of the scene of the collision, police said.

The elderly man remains in hospital in a critical condition and his next of kin have been informed.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday (March 31) on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident and remains in custody at a west London police station.

Detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who has information to come forward.
