There are hopes Fulham made history on Sunday (December 13) when hundreds of people gathered to sing festive songs on its streets.

Organiser hope a new world record for the largest Christmas carolling group was set when it performed on three roads.

They hope to have a better idea soon if they have beaten the previous best, set in America in 2013, and will need to wait weeks for official recognition.

It is thought that around 1,500 had registered at Eel Brook Common before the festive singers sung their 10 carols to 10 houses on three roads, with more then joining. The current world record stands at 1,822.

Victoria Hay helped set up the event. She said: “We had a very good turnout. We were either very close to the world record or we beat it. But until we speak to Guinness we won’t have that confirmation and that won’t be for a few weeks.”

The carollers, who were given numbered wristbands, sung on Crondace, Favart and Campana Roads. The event also saw bucket collections for charities Action for Happiness and Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. The money collected is still being counted.

Accompanying the throng of singers around the streets was Father Christmas, an illuminated float with reindeer, and choir singers.

Ms Hay said: “The day itself was absolutely phenomenal, people were lining all the way down the street.

“It was magical. Carollers said they had an absolute blast and asked if we could do it again.”
