An Acton teenager has been crowned a winner of a national photography competition.

Henry Vincent, 18, from Twyford Church of England High School, in Twyford Crescent, won at the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) 2015 photographic contest Changing World.

Henry received a £100 prize at an awards ceremony on March 10, at the Menier Gallery, and his photograph is being displayed alongside a selection of the best entries at an exhibition in the Menier from March 10-14.

This year, as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the ESRC asked children aged 14 to 18 to think about how the world has changed over the last 50 years and imagine how it may continue to change in the future.

The challenge was to capture an essence of this change in a single photograph, and there were more than 1,600 entries from 270 schools.

Henry won the Technology and Media category for his photo A tiny moon-landing. The image is of a tiny astronaut exploring the dusty surface of a small graphics card, demonstrating the revolution in computing that has allowed microchips to become ever smaller and faster.

Henry said: “The first people to land on the moon were stepping out into the unknown. We don't know where technology is going to take us next, we're still exploring what our computers will be able to do in 20 or 30 years time.”

Nicky Hobhouse, Acting Head of Creative Arts at Twyford School, said: “The creative faculty at Twyford are extremely proud of Henry Vincent. His photograph represents his passion for technology and how it is changing the world.”

There were six winners across the various categories, and five winners of the judges choice award.
