Hundreds of homes, a huge food store and more than 600 cycle spaces could be coming to Acton if a future proposal is given the green light.

Housing developer Barratt London has suggested it intends to build 350 homes at the Homebase superstore site, adjacent to Savoy Circus and the A40 Western Avenue.

The company, which said it intends to submit a full planning application, is looking to demolish and redevelop the existing store to provide a new residential-led development.

Although proposals are not yet fixed, independent consultancy firm Quod suggested Barratt London hopes to develop two buildings connected by a two-storey podium.

The taller elements of the building would range between six and 16 storeys, and would provide up to 350 residential units and a 2,100 square-metre food store.

“A total car parking of 89 spaces would also be provided," a Quod spokesman wrote in an application to Ealing Council. "19 for residents (disabled only) and 70 for food store users.

“The proposed building will replace the existing building and hard-standing car parking on site.”

The development is expected to come over a 32-month construction programme, with work estimated to commence in June 2019 and finish in February 2022.

The 0.9-hectare site is currently occupied by a Homebase and Argos superstore, and associated car parking and servicing areas are also in use.

The spokesman wrote: “The development would lead to the change in type of retail occupier, from homeware and DIY to a food store.

“The food store is considered to be an appropriate town centre use within a defined neighbourhood centre and is replacing an existing retail use.”

Quod suggested, in a request for a screening opinion document, that there is “likely to be increased noise during the demolition and construction work”.

“Some of the residential dwellings located in the vicinity of the site may be temporarily affected by these works,” the document added.
