A motorcyclist has died following a serious collision on the A40 on Friday (December 8).

Police were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning. The eastbound A40 Western Avenue is shut at eastbound at the Greenford Roundabout.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident.

Transport for London is warning the closure will be in place for some time. Traffic is tailing back to Polish War Memorial.

Traffic returns to normal

Traffic has returned to normal after the fatal collision this morning.

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4am after coming off his motorcycle at the junction of Alperton Lane.

Commuters were urged to avoid the area as the road was closed while an investigation was carried out.

All lanes now open

All lanes have now reopened on A40 Western Avenue’s eastbound carriageway following a fatal collision this morning.

The road was initially closed so emergency services could investigate the accident, which took place at the junction with Alperton Lane.

Lanes opened around 9am and the final lane reopened at 10.15am.

It’s not busy, both ways are open.

Road closure affecting other roads

There is queuing traffic on the A4005 Ealing Road Southbound at A406 North Circular Road (Hanger Lane Gyratory), congestion is to the A4090 Whitton Avenue East.

The B456 Alperton Lane Eastbound is also affected between Manor Farm Road and A4005 Ealing Road.

'A man was pronounced dead at the scene'

A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said:

Police were called on Friday, 8 December at 04:05 hours to Western Avenue junction with Alperton Lane, Perivale to reports of a motorcyclist injured.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have not yet been informed.

Enquiries are still ongoing but it is believed the man may have mounted a kerb which resulted in him coming off the motorcycle.

Road closures are in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
