Almost 70 cyclist a year are involved in accidents while undertaking vehicles on the roads in west London.

Getwestlondon analysed figures collected from police reports by the Department for Transport, which show cyclists were involved in accidents while trying to overtake on the nearside of other road users a massive 417 times in west London between 2010 and 2015.

That equates to an average of 69.5 per year in the area.

Westminster had the most undertaking accidents in the whole of Britain between 2010 and 2015

Four of those accidents between 2010 and 2015 were fatal, three of which were in the borough of Westminster and one in the borough of Ealing.

The figures also show between 2010 and 2015, more than half of all cases in Britain of an accident happening as a result of a cyclist undertaking, occurred in London.

'Undertaking' is a term used to describe the act of a cyclist who cycles past slow-moving cars and other vehicles whilst stuck in traffic.

Westminster had the most undertaking incidents in Britain

There were 2,823 accidents involving cyclists undertaking in the whole of Britain between the same dates, 17 of which were fatal.

Westminster had the most undertaking accidents in Britain, with 163 recorded between 2010 and 2015.

Other accident prone areas included along the A308 in Parsons Green and Walham Green in Fulham and along Chiswick High Road.

The table shows Westminster with considerably more accidents involving undertaking cyclists than any other borough.

Its figure of 163, compares with the second highest on the list, Brent, which recorded 56, that's a massive 107 less.

The borough of Harrow recorded the least amount of accidents, with just 5.
