It's official! Morrisons is now the third supermarket to announce it will scrap the tampon tax.

The news comes after Tesco was the first to publicly declare it would pay the fee on behalf of its customers, followed by Waitrose.

It means VAT will be cancelled on all sanitary products including tampons, sanitary towels and panty liners.

Morrisons confirmed the announcement via Twitter, saying it would bring an end to the tampon tax from Monday (August 14).

@MorrisonsNews tweeted on Friday (August 11): "We can announce that we will cancel VAT on women’s sanitary products by paying the tax for customers.

"Prices start changing from Monday."

The move comes as the government continues to work towards bringing the 5% VAT to an end.

However, so far these three supermarket giants have decided to get the ball rolling early.

Women's sanitary products are classed as 'luxury' items and have a 5% tax on them

Tampons range in price from about 95p to £3.30 depending on which brand you get and where you buy them from.

Sanitary towels start at 19p for a pack of 10 to £3 for the same amount, depending on the brand you opt for.

The news has delighted both men and women across the nation.

Responding to the news on Twitter, comments included "good move," "blooming cracking news" and "smart business".
