Weather forecasters have warned of a "potential threat to life" from Hurricane Ophelia - but the outlook couldn't be more different in London.

With Ophelia set to batter parts of the UK on Monday (October 16) on the 30th anniversary of the Great Storm of 1987, Londoners can expect balmy conditions by comparison.

In fact, temperatures could hit the mid-20Cs come Monday. Phwoar.

Elsewhere though, the Met Office has issued severe weather alerts, warning of potential power cuts, flying debris and disruption to transport and mobile phone signal.

A status red weather warning has been issued for parts of Ireland, while a yellow warning is in place for much of Wales, Scotland, north east England, north west England, south west England and the West Midlands.

The hurricane, which is on its way from the Portuguese island of Azores, will reduce in severity, like to "ex hurricane" status by the time it hits the UK.

It is expected to bring severe winds and stormy conditions with winds of up to 80mph, with heavy rain that could bring flooding.

The Met Office said: "There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"Flying debris is likely, such as tiles blown from roofs, as well as large waves around coastal districts with beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.

"This leads to the potential for injuries and danger to life."

The unsettled weather is expected to continue into Tuesday (October 17), and conditions will remain changeable throughout the rest of the week.

Weather in London

In London though, forecasters are predicting it will be bright and warm with sunny spells on Monday (October 16), if windy at times.

And while there may be strong winds first thing on Tuesday (October 17), it will turn dry, bright and warm again throughout the day.
