HOUNSLOW is planning a royal celebration for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with nearly 40 street parties set to take place across the borough.

A total of 36 street parties celebrating the anniversary of the Queen’s ascension have been confirmed over the four-day weekend, which begins on Saturday, June 2, though that figure could yet rise.

Events planned so far include a picnic and football tournament in Inwood Park, Hounslow; a hog roast, disco, quiz and more over two days at Chiswick’s Gunnersbury Triangle Club; and music, games and a picnic on Heston’s Brabazon Green.

The highlight of the weekend will be the lighting of a beacon in Lampton Park, Hounslow, on Monday night, one of hundreds of such events taking place across the country.

Although Hounslow is clearly getting in the spirit, the number of events planned here is well below that in some other boroughs, with Richmond and Wandsworth each set to host more than 160 parties.
