If you're a keen Instagam user and love a stalk on Facebook, it's time to panic.

Social media users have been quick to notice problems with both of the sites on Wednesday (October 11) evening.

It appears two of the world's largest networking sites have crashed in a major outage, sending social media users into a frenzy.

Both services started experiencing issues at around 16:00 BST, according to independent website DownDetector , which tracks major network outages.

Users in the South of England and East cost of America appear to be the worst affected, according to the Mirror .

However, problems were also reported elsewhere in Europe and the US.

Many users took to rival social network Twitter to complain about the lack of service.

It is not yet clear what has caused the outages, but it is perhaps no coincidence, given that both social networks are owned by the same company.

"We're aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram," a Facebook spokesperson told Mirror Online.

"We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
