Twickenham homeowners are set to earn up to £60,000 during the Six Nations by renting out their driveways, according to website JustPark.

The average driveway fetches £20 per day but this rises to £40 closer to the stadium, while houses with multiple spaces could easily earn £100 per day.

Residents in the area have already collectively made more than £300,000 renting out their spare parking spaces through the site during international Rugby Union and Harlequins matches, according to figures from the website.

Katrina Haverfield, 46, has been renting her drive out for five years now and has taken over 170 bookings through JustPark.

She said: "There are about six or seven of us down the road who all rent our drives out when Twickenham is hosting an event.

"Most people are grateful and actually really nice. I think they like the security of parking on a driveway rather than on the street or in the stadium car park.

"Years ago there was a glitch in the system and I had three people turn up for one space but aside from that I've never had any problems.

"I have two spaces and charge £20 per space, although JustPark take £3 from that.

"I think I've probably had someone using my drive 90% of the time that their has been an event on at Twickenham."

More than 160,000 fans will descend on Twickenham as England take on Ireland and then face Wales at their national stadium during the coming Six Nations.

Stadium parking is already sold out for both fixtures and fans are prepared to pay out for the added convenience of a short walk to the ground.

Anthony Eskinazi, founder of JustPark, said: “With match day parking at Twickenham stadium in such short supply - and costing up to £40 per game - more and more rugby fans are opting for cheaper and convenient alternatives such as JustPark.”

“Drivers save an average of 50% by booking a parking space in a local driveway rather than in the stadium’s on-site car park - and the money they spend goes back into the pockets of the local residents who are renting out their spaces.”

Driveway rental is a rapidly growing trend across the UK, with parking space owners making over £10 million per year through JustPark.

Last year the company reported an increase of over 50% in the number of driveway bookings in Twickenham made through their mobile phone app and website.
