M25 traffic is heavy and slow after a crash closed two lanes of the motorway.

The four car collision left debris on the road which is taking time to clear, according to the INRIX traffic and travel alerts service.

Congestion on the clockwise side of the M25 stretches from Clacket Lane Services and Junction 6 for Godstone back to Junction 5.

Elsewhere two lanes are closed southbound on the M40 in Buckinghamshire after a crash.

There are queues of traffic for five miles, according to reports.

Two cars were involved on the M40 Southbound at J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout).

Traffic is finally easing on the M25.

Here’s the latest update from the INRIX traffic alerts service:

1: M25 - KENT - CLOCKWISE

Traffic easing on M25 clockwise at J5 M26. Residual delays after an accident after Clacket Lane Services which closed two lanes from 06:50 until 09:45. Traffic joining the M25 from the M26 is clearing slowly.

Delays now reduced to 1 hour 5 minutes

They were closer to two hours on the M25 earlier, so there has been some progress.

Here’s the latest from INRIX traffic updates:

1: M25 - SURREY - CLOCKWISE

Two lanes closed, severe delays and queueing traffic for 12 miles due to earlier accident, two cars and a van involved on M25 clockwise between Clacket Lane Services and J6 A22 ( Godstone ). Congestion to J4 (Orpington) and along the M26 roughly halfway back to J2A. Travel time is 1 hour and 5 minutes. Lanes one and two (of four) remain closed, the vehicles were recovered around 08:20. Traffic was held for a second time around 07:55 for a few minutes to re-sweep lane four and treat a small spillage. Clacket Lane services is located between J5 and J6.

Here’s the latest traffic information from INRIX in the last few minutes:

1: M23 - SURREY - SOUTHBOUND

One lane blocked and slow traffic due to accident on M23 Southbound at J8 / M25 J7. Lane one (of two) is blocked just after you join from the M25.


2: M25 - SURREY - CLOCKWISE

Two lanes closed, severe delays and queueing traffic due to recovery work and accident, two cars and a van involved on M25 clockwise between Clacket Lane Services and J6 A22 ( Godstone ). Congestion to J4 (Orpington) and along the M26 approaching the M25. Travel time is 1 hour and 35 minutes. Lanes one and two (of four) remain closed. Traffic was held for a second time around 07:55 for a few minutes to re-sweep lane four and treat a small spillage. Clacket Lane services is located between J5 and J6.


3: M40 - BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - SOUTHBOUND

Severe delays and queueing traffic for nine miles due to earlier accident, van a three cars involved on M40 Southbound at J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout). Congestion to J5 (Stokenchurch) also affecting the A404 and the A4010 heading towards the motorway. Travel time is 1 hour and 10 minutes. All lanes have been re-opened. Lanes two and three (of three) were closed until just before 08:25.

There are also delays on the M23

That’s according to the AA:

One lane blocked and slow traffic due to accident on M23 Southbound at J8 / M25 J7. Lane one (of two) is blocked just after you join from the M25.

Earlier anti-clockwise delays are easing

The hold ups caused by a broken down vehicle anti-clockwise on the M25 earlier are clearing up:

1: M25 - BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - ANTICLOCKWISE

Traffic easing, earlier broken down car on M25 anticlockwise at J16 M40. Traffic was held from 07:30 for a few minutes just before the exit slip road from the M40 northbound, the car was towed by police onto the hard shoulder.

The AA is saying that the queues near Godstone stretch back for 7 miles:

M40 crash involved three cars, a van and a fuel spillage

It’s also all going badly on the M40, following a crash causing big delays:

1: M40 - BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - SOUTHBOUND

Two lanes closed and queueing traffic for five miles due to accident, three cars and a van involved and fuel spillage on M40 Southbound at J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout). Congestion to J5 (Stokenchurch) and on the A4010 heading South towards the motorway. Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed. Not in view on camera.

Traffic was held briefly around 07:35 to attend to the cars in lanes one and two and sweep away the debris in lane four. Clacket Lane services is located between J5 and J6.
