A police car window was smashed after youths allegedly threw bottles from a roof top in Ealing .

On Sunday (June 5) Met police were called to The Broadway, at 2.19pm, following reports of youths throwing items at members of the public from a roof.

Police said that when officers attended a marked police car was struck by a glass bottle and "other objects" which smashed the windscreen.

Officers added that no officers or members of the public were injured.

The force said they searched the roof area following the incident but no arrests have so far been made.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Jon Ball, who represents Ealing Common, tweeted a photo of the smashed windscreen after the incident.

The police car was passing through The Broadway shortly after 3pm

Cllr Ball said he first noticed the damage when he was driving along The Broadway shortly after 3pm.

After pulling over to talk to police, he said he was told that bottles had been thrown from above WHSmiths - next to where the vehicle was parked.

Cllr Ball said: "Someone could have been killed by a bottle thrown from that height and it is a really long way up."

He added that he saw a heavy police presence near Walpole Park following the incident.

Cllr Ball also said that a gate leading to the rooftops, accessed through an alleyway opposite Ealing Broadway station entrance, was open when he looked.
