A man was helicoptered to hospital after a vehicle fire in the car park of Bayhurst Woods Country Park.

Police say the man was local and is in a critical condition in hospital.

London Fire Brigade says the car was completely destroyed. It sent two appliances – one from Hillingdon and one from Harrow – to the woods off Breakspear Road North, between Ruislip and Harefield at about 10.30am today (Wednesday).

An eye witness who took the picture above said: "Somebody in the car has suffered serious burns and been helicoptered away."

A spokesperson from London Air Ambulance said: "We landed nearby on Breakspear Road. Our advanced trauma doctor and paramedic treated a patient on scene."

Paramedics were called to reports of a car and a person on fire.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, which has a specialist burns unit.

Police said they were not treating the incident as suspicious and were not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

They say the exact circumstances are still unknown, but some relatives have been contacted and officers are seeking other close family.

If anyone has any information about this incident they are asked to call Detective Constable Lauren Brown on 020 8246 1744.
