A new initiative has been launched to help young people make a difference to their school community by having their say to improve travel and safety issues.

Pupils across six schools have voted their own Youth Travel Ambassadors, which is being ran by Transport for London and Harrow Council.

On January 13, the ambassadors will attend a Dragon’s Den-style event to be held at Harrow's Civic Centre.

They will pitch their ideas to a panel of transport experts, alongside schools and colleges from Harrow.

The panel will offer advice, support and funding of up to £300 to enable the teams to make their ideas a reality.

Councillor Varsha Parmar (Labour), cabinet member for environment, crime and community safety said: “It is fantastic to see young travel ambassadors passionate about highlighting and improving travel and safety issues affecting them and their peers.

"This scheme will give them a chance to make a real difference. It also brings lots of benefits for their personal, academic and professional development."
