HOWEVER we choose to celebrate or whatever we call this time of year - Christmas season, winter festival or a chance for reflection - the following are presents on our wish list.
We hope H&F Council will reconsider and deliver them as they are the gifts that make us a community, as follows:
Askham, Sand End, Shepherds Bush Families Project and Children's Centres. Barons Court, Hammersmith and Sands End libraries, Goldhawk traders and Shepherds Bush market stall holders, HAFAD Gresswell Centre, H&F Information Centre. The Irish Centre, Palingswick House, Sands End Community Centre, Save our Cinema, Skyline, Social Housing Estates (seven) The Thomas Pocklington Trust, Threshold and Youth Centres. There are others too.
Each represents a member of every H&F group, the ribbons that bind us together. Unfortunately it seems the council are reluctant givers. The value of these services is priceless.
Right across H&F it seems our community services and other local interests are being discarded like unwanted presents.
Many residents and users of services are campaigning to save them, giving their time to find workable solutions.
This time of year can be stressful and/or sad depending on personal circumstances.
We're concerned by what the new year will bring so we don't need added anxiety of cutbacks to irreplaceable services that we may well need in the future. We'd like to keep the warmth and vibrancy they offer.
For those who are new H&F residents choosing to live here because of its diversity or those who are unaware of what others in our community are facing, please have a look at their websites as many groups would welcome the gift of your interest and or support.
It's a chance to get to know the wider community, be a part of it.
Sometimes, sadly, we don't appreciate the worth of something until it's gone.
We residents together will put ourselves out there. We refuse to be carved up like a turkey offered on a platter to property developers.
To this council we say 'Bah Humbug' - let's put the heart and fun back into H&F.
