A chartered architect has been elected as the youngest member of a national council responsible for the conduct and development of his profession.

Vinesh Pomal, 27, of Federal Road, Perivale , is now one of eight Londoners on the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) council which governs itself and manages issues within the vocation.

Mr Pomal was elected last month and will go to his first planned meeting in September.

The 27-year-old, who went to Drayton Manor High School in Hanwell, said: “I’m hoping to get the views of the younger generation voiced at council level, make the profession accessible to all and ensure the ban of unpaid internships is enforced.

“There are eight London council members and 60 in the country. Every two years they elect people from different regions.

“The institute discuss issues about planning and sustainability.”

Mr Pomal, who is currently working as an architect at Levitt Bernstein on housing and school projects, added: “Perivale is lucky to have two important buildings on its doorstep.

“The Art Deco Hoover Building is a key landmark for the area whilst Perivale Station, which was Grade 2 listed last year, has a sense of elegance and promotes high quality station design. I feel proud of living with such beautiful buildings on my doorstep.”

Chaired by the president, the RIBA council meets four times annually.
