INSPIRATIONAL volunteers from Ealing and the surrounding West London boroughs have received awards for their commitment in helping others at a VIPthemed ceremony.

As part of the annual V-involved youth project awards, 120 people from Ealing, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham were honoured by the boroughs' mayors for dedicating 50 hours to voluntary projects.

During the event held at Hammersmith Town Hall on November 26, comedian Richard Blackwood entertained the 350 guests. Entertainment also included a live music and dance performance.

The glitzy, Oscar-themed ceremony, complete with red carpet, recognised the work of teenagers who give up their free time to provide vital support to west London charities, schools and other

needy organisations. Some volunteers were presented with a V-impact award for completing 150 hours helping others.

Siboniso Moyo, the youth volunteer development manager for Ealing, said: "It's great to see so many young people being recognised for doing such good.

"We are pleased to be involved with a national volunteering project that helps the young find suitable volunteering opportunities.

"The project helps young people gain skills and meet people while helping their local communities.

"This certainly gives them a competitive edge during these challenging economic times."
