UNEMPLOYED young people were invited to an event to boost work opportunities in Brent.

The event, at Harlesden Methodist Church, High Street, Harlesden, took place on Saturday, December 8, and was open to anyone aged 16 to 27.

Zaffar Van Kawala, Labour councillor for Stonebridge ward, said there was a lot of positivity and he hoped it would lead to larger projects for young people finding it hard to find a job.

Mr Kawala said: “We have put together a charter and a lot of people were interested in that. We want people to sign up to the charter, such as businesses in the area, and we are hoping they will give young people more opportunities and experience to help them get a job. There were a lot of discussions and some good ideas came out of it.”

The event was hosted by SERTUC, the southern and eastern branch of the Trades Union Congress.
