YOUNGSTERS got on their bikes during the Sky Ride Schools event at Featherstone High School in Southall at the weekend.

More than 100 students took part in the event, organised by the Mayor of London to encourage young people to get more involved with cycling.

One of the highlights of the day was an appearance by BMX World Masterclass Champion Mike Mullen, who performed a demonstration to the delight of students.

The Mayor of London’s transport advisor, Kulveer Ranger, and Ealing councillor Bassam Mahfouz were also there to lend their support to the day.

The event coincided with the school's first ever summer fete, which raised over £900 for charity. Staff and students donated books, clothes and other items while visitors got to enjoy traditional fete activities like food stalls and a tombola.

Proceeds from the event will go to three charities; Go Terrace, a local drop-in centre for the elderly, the National Refugee Charity and Kwazulu Natal Children Aid, which helps children in schools in Africa.
