A TALENTED photographer from Kew has been named wildlife photographer of the year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Sam Rowley's winning image of a deer in Richmond Park was such a hit with the judges that it will be on display at the Natural History Museum until April. It also earned the Hampton School pupil £250.

Sam's entry in the 11 to 14-year category of the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition shows a deer with bracken laced through its antlers, silhouetted against an early-morning sky.

Sam, who recently turned 15, is now thinking of turning his lens on the urban foxes that live near his home.

He said: "The foxes only come out at night so I am thinking of leaving some food out for them, and using flash photography to capture their urban habitat."
