ON JUNE 14, I received a letter from the London Borough of Hounslow (LBH) revenue department. It was about council tax.

The date of issue on the letter was April 16. Did someone forget to post it? It has taken 60 days to cover about two and a half miles.

It is no use trying to phone the department concerned as you would have to keep on waiting to speak to someone. A few weeks ago I tried to phone them twice. After 10 minutes I put the phone down. They say 'thank you for being patient', but even patience has its limit.

If you want to speak to a person in the revenue department it is very difficult and I think it is about time it got better. Why not bring back the surgeries for tenants? Estate managers used to visit estates once a month to hear people's complaints and other things. At least you spoke to someone without holding a telephone half of the day.
