A CHART-TOPPING pop star gave young musicians in Harrow a masterclass after they won a UK-wide competition.
Shayne Ward, who won TV’s X Factor show in 2005, visited singers and musicians from the London Irish Music School.
The competition was run by the charity CLIC Sargent as part of a Practice-a-thon, a national music and dance fundraising campaign.
Singers from the school, which is based at St George’s RC Primary School, won by raising more than £800 through a traditional Irish music event in December
The masterclass was held at the primary school on Tuesday afternoon and the Rock of Ages star gave students tips on performing.
Colette Keaveney, a music teacher at London Irish Music School, said: “We all love traditional Irish music and we thought we’d pick our favourite songs and practise them to perfection in aid of a good cause.
“We were absolutely thrilled to get the opportunity to take part in Shayne’s masterclass and share our music skills and we picked up some invaluable hints and tips.
“I’m really proud of our students for raising so much money to help support young cancer patients and we can’t wait to take part in Practice-a-thon next year.”
