WORK has started on a £3million science block at a secondary school in Harrow on the Hill.

The three-storey building is being built at The John Lyon School, an independent boys' school in Middle Road, and will in effect be an extension to the main block that is being partially remodelled.

Eight new science laboratories, three class-rooms, two drama studios, three preparation rooms and four staff adminstrative rooms will be provided by the scheme overall.

Headmaster Kevin Riley said: "This project is very exciting and will create state-of-theart science and drama facilities for our boys. In fact, it's just the start.

"Over the next few years, a whole series of changes at Middle Road and our Sudbury Hill sports grounds will give us the facilities we need to create excellence, particularly in music, art, the performing arts and sport."

The new block is part of the school's 10-year strategy to improve facilities for its 600 pupils.
