A new women’s only gym is coming to the Everyone Active Acton Centre following popular demand.

The centre will install the gym in time for January 2015, after investment of more than £70,000 from Everyone Active, which operates the centre in partnership with Ealing Council.

The leisure operator is launching the women’s only gym seven months after opening the £19 million centre in direct response to customer feedback which highlighted the need for it in the area.

One of the existing group exercise studios will be converted into a 19 station fitness suite with Precor cardio equipment such as treadmills, upright and recumbent bikes, cross trainers and Adaptive Motion Trainers, as well as Concept 2 rowers, Power Plate machines and resistance kit.

There will also be designated areas for stretching and free weights.

Work will commence on January 5 and should be finished by the end of the month.

Everyone Active General Manager Luke Charlton said: “Re-investment is one of our core principles and we are committed to providing the best facilities and service possible for our customers.

“Feedback showed lots of women in Acton and the surrounding areas were wanting to exercise in a women-only environment so we’re adding this facility in the hope it will encourage many more females to keep fit and active in 2015.”

Ealing cabinet member for leisure, libraries and customer services Councillor Dr Patricia Walker said: “This is great news for women in Acton; some of whom we know have been put off taking regular exercise in a mixed gym environment. I’m certain this new facility will encourage more women of all ages to get fit and active on a regular basis.”
