SISTERS were doing it for themselves at a special event in Hounslow that attracted more than 1,000 women.

The Metropolitan Police and Hounslow Council organised the gathering at the Civic Centre to celebrate International Women's Day.

Guests were entertained by a host of acts, including drummers, a choir from the Dominion Church and hiphop artist Mai Khalil.

There was the chance to shimmy along with a belly dancer as well as watching a martial arts demonstration.

Ritu Sethi, author of Not Without My Sisters, also spoke and answered questions.
