THE new Athena Women's business networking group got off to a flying start at its inaugural meeting last month.

The event coincided with national Pay It Forward Day on April 26, which encourages people to do good deeds for each other, and was held at The Bull pub at the Westifeid shopping centre.

The first guest speaker was Lynne Copp, who spoke about ‘the future of work' and her book Dancing Around the Handbags.

Athena is a national organisation for women in business which has been running for more than five years.

It was started by entrepreneur Joanne Summer, who also runs groups in Ealing, Barnes and Chiswick.

In her opening address, she said: "I'm delighted so many people are here today.

"Athena attracts a range of female entrepreneurs from a wide range of industries from solo entrepreneurs, owner managers to representatives of multi site operations. "Networking builds relationships so people gain confidence and trust and over time are willing to pass referrals.

"It's about getting to know each other and word of mouth recommendations."

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, May 24 at noon.
